Brief
When we're not playing with technology, we like to surf, kiteboard and play in the ocean. And we want to know what the conditions are like without making a trek to the beach. So we rigged up a few cams and tried to connect them to the web. We tried all sorts of web cam relay systems and even invested in one worth $10,000, but none of them worked consistently or smoothly. So, we finally just developed our own relay system and cam network.
Solution
Over time, we created a streaming webcam relay system that allows webcam feeds to be displayed on our websites. Once we had a few cams up, we noticed that we weren't the only people needing a better relay service. So we expanded the service to include webcam point/tilt/zoom controls, a back-end management system, and sponsored advertisements. Now our network host over 200 cams and most can viewed on iPhone/iPad.
