The Amazing Maui Babe

Everything about Maui Babe – from their world famous browning lotion, to the story of how the company was created – is amazing. So of course, Maui Babe’s founder Joe Rossi, wanted a web presence as amazing as his line of browning and skin care products. However, before we began constructing a prototype, we took a good look at his existing site.

The Old Maui Babe Website

Even though the design needs to be updated, the website generated a constant flow of orders. We would need to preserve the order history and customer base. Link mapping and incorporating all existing copy would help us retain SEO ranking. However, in order make sure we made the right improvements, we needed to place various types of tracking code so we could observed how users interacted with the Maui Babe website. This process helped us identify what was and wasn’t performing.

The New Maui Babe Website

We discovered that the bounce rate for the checkout page could be reduced. Maui Babe lost potential sales because a percentage of their users would take one look at the checkout page and leave the site. To lower the bounce rate and create more conversions we need more Maui Babe users to trust the website. First, we implemented a simple checkout process. Then, we increased the level of security by installing the highest assurance SSL certificate available at Comodo.com. These next generation SSL certificates are backed by business verification and have a high bit encryption rate. Users feel at ease because they see official badges and a HTTPS in a green address bar during checkout. The end result is a friendly checkout page with undeniable legitimacy.

Beside improving their cart, we added functionality to their shop, created a mobile ready website, installed a blog, connected their social media presence and wrapped it all in slick design. For a complete tour of the feature list, please visit the Maui Babe blog.

In Memory of Steve Jobs, a True Visionary, Inventor & Inspiration

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity.”

Simple can be harder than complex: you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.  But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”

- Steve Jobs

Here at Bump Networks, we view Steve Jobs as an “Über Human” — a visionary beyond description and equal in achievements to the likes of Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King, and John F. Kennedy.

His revolutionary focus on simplicity inspires our work daily and the impact that he’s had on technology will always be reflected as we progress forward. Below are a few words our Founder & CTO shared regarding one of his greatest influences, Steve Jobs.

“I’m still in shock that one of my biggest idols lost his life on Wednesday. It is starting to actually hit me – the future impact and the influence he had on me, this company and the overall effect he had on the world as a whole.

To me, Steve Jobs represented the pure notion that effort equals perfection – flaws are just pieces that belong to the process of achievement. His spirit will live on, but I find that I miss him like a family member – someone I loved and respected at a level unknown to me until this point.

His impact will be felt throughout all future generations – similar to the way flight changed human kind. He created the first impact of digital medium & technology directed towards the human experience, which actually triggered a true revolution far greater than we realize at this moment. We can only hope that Apple will honor his methodology and vision, as there is no other that can even come close to filling his shoes.”

Introducing the new Kasprzycki 2.0!

Bump Networks is proud to announce the launch of the newly redesigned Kasprzycki.com!

Jan Kasprzycki’s art work is full of color and passion which served as the perfect inspiration for the new site design. We wanted to showcase his artwork without overpowering it, so we created a series of painterly backdrops to compliment his artistic style. We created a custom CMS which allows the artist to control his gallery and add paintings and artwork quickly and easily. We also simplified the inquiry form for the user by auto-filling the selected artwork’s information into the form.

We encourage you to browse through his latest gallery work and get inspired! And don’t forget to check out Jan’s blog to stay up-to-date on his newest paintings and inspirations. Let us know what you think!

Bump Networks Awarded Standard of Excellence from the Web Marketing Association

Bump Networks was awarded the Credit Union Standard of Excellence by the Web Marketing Association for the creation of Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union.

Each site is assigned to three or more expert judges for evaluation.  The judges are informed of the mission statement and prospective audience for the site and provided a link with password, if needed, to enter and review the site.   Judges are not told who submitted the entry or which category it is entered into.  They visit the site starting with the URL provided on the entry form and assume the role of a target user.  After reviewing the site, they enter their scores for seven different judging criteria and sometimes overall comments before moving on to the next site.  At the conclusion of the judging, the two highest scores are averaged for the final score.  Any lower scores are dropped, although the comments are retained and provided to the participants.

Each site is judged on each of the seven criteria, earning a score between 0 and 70 points.  The highest score in a given category wins Best Website of that industry. If the remaining entries receive a score of 60 or greater, they receive the Outstanding Website WebAward. Entries receive the Standard of Excellence WebAward when their score is above the average of their industry, but below 60 points.

Introducing the fully developed MauiActivities.com

Earlier this year, we launched an 11 page proof-of-concept website that focused on Maui’s Top 10 Activities. The sale of activities is a competitive industry and we wanted to figure out how to best carve a niche in a saturated market. We intended to prove that ‘content is king’ by taking the time to gather large, beautiful images and to craft unique and interesting activity descriptions. We supported high quality content with modern design and connected each activity detail page to a simple inquiry form. We launched MauiActivities.com, listed the business on Google Places, and backed the website with 15 hours worth of SEO efforts to help build organic rank. Within three months the site had paid for itself and everyone felt confident that developing a fully functional e-commerce website would be worth the investment.

MauiActivities.com 2.0

We kept our emphasis on content by expanding the information, media and features available on MauiActivities.com. Finding the perfect activity is fun and easy with informative category landing pages. Activities within a category can be viewed in list format or in a comparison grid. Each activity features a large media gallery offering images and videos, unique copy, reviews, location and directions, pricing and booking information. Activity bookings are accomplished in three simple steps and users can use guest checkout or sign in with their Facebook accounts. This Activity website supports both the creation and advertising of special deals and exciting combination packages.  Additionally, we outfitted MauiActivities.com with blog to help them offer more information on traveling to Maui, Hawaii. Both their blog roll and Facebook likebox are featured prominently on the homepage and social media sharing options are available site wide. MauiActivites.com offers a fresh look at the various activities available on Maui and we are proud to have helped set the stage for what we hope becomes the leading activity website on Maui.

Looking for ways to increase website traffic? Add a webcam.

In this Self Made in Hawaii segment, Arben Kryeziu discusses how live streaming HD webcams offer businesses a fantastic opportunity to enhance their web presence.

Successful webcams offer users access to something they want to see – a stunning view,  a project under-construction, a retail space, a bird’s-eye view of a high-use area or just about anything else that your audience will appreciate. Webcams create a high-value user experience that promotes return visitors and fosters the circulation of your website’s URL. The cumulative result is an increase traffic and back-links, which strengthens your website’s value and elevates your search engine ranking.  Additionally, you can take advantage of the traffic increase brought on by your webcam by showcasing specials, and banner and text ads to a captive audience.

Take for example the Maui Ocean Safety webcam network, powered by Ozolio Webcam Hosting Soultions and sponsored by local businesses. These cams offer great views of popular  beaches and breaks across the island of Maui and appeal to visitors and ocean enthusiasts alike. Over the past month, this network has commanded the attention of over 85,000 visitors from within and outside of the islands. During the winter months, the network experiences a 40,000 – 60,000 visitor traffic surge as the swells roll in. This traffic triggers the constant circulation of webcam URLs and generates a high volume of links from other websites back to Mama’s Beach Cam, Kiehi Beach Cam, and West Side Cam. The traffic, social media chatter, and link building has helped establish these cams as a resource for the community and for users interested in seeing what Maui has to offer.

Webcam hosting and hardware installation and set-up is quick and easy. Webcam controls like pan-tilt-zoom can be limited to preserve privacy but still offer enough control to ensure the best user experience. The webcam interface can be customized with presets to help users navigate to the ideal angle/zoom combination to take in the best view. Overall, the customization of the webcam’s interface helps businesses highlight their best attributes while preserving privacy. Learn more about webcam features and benefits and webcam hardware and hosting at www.Ozolio.com.
